Lily Elsayed, New York, NY
As a friend of Mike and Jules Peters for 28 years, She is very proud to be involved with Love Hope Strength since it’s inception in 2007. Its vision was something she immediately connected with, with both her Mom and Grandmother having battled breast cancer and seeing Mike fight through two diagnoses of Leukemia. Having met Shannon and James and hearing their experiences knowing the changes we could make one person at a time was something she fully embraced with a fierce passion and one that she has seen first hand at all our early events. Volunteering and participating in Empire Rocks, Snowdon Rocks and the annual Union County Music Festival, various concerts and events along the way, as well as being involved in the promotion of LHS through social media. More recently, she initiated and coordinated taking a mobile LHS/DKMS booth out on the road for the Alarm’s U.S. tour. The response from the Alarm audience who have been so supportive, as well as her fellow Alarm fans that passionately volunteered for the bone marrow drives was overwhelming. “Working with Love Hope Strength has not only personally impacted and rewarded my life but has allowed me to connect with so many wonderful people who share the same ethos. Being part of the foundation and sharing that human connection with courageous fighters, brave survivors and those who love and support them is both humbling and fuels the desire to help even further in any way I can.” Life stories and challenges shared, many tears wept, joys and accomplishments celebrated, with the knowledge that we can make a difference with Love Hope and Strength, One life at a time is why she enjoys volunteering for LHS

Sarah Ewalt, Denver, CO
Sarah Ewalt lives in Shanghai, China, working as a Design Strategist for a local industrial design and research firm. She first became involved with Love Hope Strength in the summer of 2009 and always enjoyed volunteering for the organization whenever she could while living in Denver. While there is no Chinese LHS chapter, Sarah is still doing what she can to spread the word of this great foundation while she is abroad, wearing Love Hope Strength gear, and handing out business cards along the way. Like so many of us, Sarah has known too many people in her life to be touched by cancer, and has a personal connection to working with Love Hope Strength. Helping raise money for treatment centers around the world, and getting people signed up to be “On the list” is not only a worthy effort, but personally rewarding one for her. In addition to volunteering at many local events, Sarah also raised money for, and ran the Gift of Breathe and Life 5k, and climbed Pikes Peak in the summer of 2010 for Love Hope Strength. When asked to explain why she enjoys volunteering for LHS, Sarah replied, “Being able to do something to help those fighting cancer — and to support their loves ones, while bonding with many wonderful people is an experience like none other. Every time I work with Love Hope Strength, I feel like I’ve accomplished something to benefit the greater good — and go home happy.”

Destiny Jara, Denver, CO
Destiny is a Child Life Specialist, and works on a daily basis with hospitalized children using play to reduce anxiety and stress. During her career she has worked with several children each having a different diagnosis, from respiratory diseases to severe disabilities to different types of cancer. Destiny has been volunteering for Love Hope Strength for 3 years and is always ready and available for any task thrown at her – whether it be helping out at a show, or greeting hikers at the top of Pikes Peak with a bullhorn!

Kara Primomo, Denver, CO
Kara grew up in Albany, NY and went to the Savannah College of Art and Design where she studied Photography. Her interests beyond art and photography include snowboarding, wakeboarding, camping, cooking, going out to see live music, hiking with her dog and just enjoying the outdoors and living in Colorado. She first got involved with Love Hope Strength in the fall of 2009, and has had a ton of fun at all of the events she’s volunteered at with LHS, including the Mile High Music Festival, Snowsports Industries of America convention, and Pikes Peak Rocks 2010. When asked what her favorite volunteer experience was to date, she replied, “The trek up Pikes Peak was truly an amazing experience that I’ll never forget. I had a blast, and met a lot of awesome people, all while raising money for a great cause.”

Rob Rushing, Nashville, TN
At the age of 15 a friend handed Rob The Alarm’s Declaration (on vinyl) and He was hooked! It was the first time he thought of being a singer in a band. He was lucky to turn his loves in life into careers through the years– music (singing and being a roadie for some great bands) then his current career as a golf pro. Through his lifelong admiration of Mike Peters and The Alarm, he searched out Love Hope Strength. Keeping an eye on LHS happenings around the world and especially The Bone Marrow drives, his major question was, why was Nashville (Music City, USA) not involved? A couple of calls later, he joined the Denver team and Shannon Foley at The 2010 Bonnaroo festival, returning to launch a version in Nashville! In the time since Bonnaroo 2010 Rob has hosted great shows in Nashville and travelled to California twice to run bone marrow drives for LHS. His passion for life is strength, and he plans on doing his part to help save as many lives around the world as he can!
