After years of subzero tents, sardine style sleeping accommodations, yak milk, and tarantulas…we thought it was time to bring Love Hope Strength’s one-of-a-kind fundraising music adventures to a warmer climate. Don’t worry – we are sure to return to freezing destinations soon! Kauai Rocks is a combination of the passions of Mike Peters and Donavon Frankenreiter. Mike, a 2-time Leukemia survivor and lead singer of the Alarm, met Donavon, a champion surfer and world renowned musician who calls Kauai home, when they summitted Mount Fuji together to raise money for Love Hope Strength(LHS). Donavon, after seeing firsthand the global impact LHS has had on cancer care, has extended the olive branch to his majestic island. Artists from all over the globe will be joining Donavon and Mike throughout the 9 days in Kauai including John Oates, Shawn Colvin, Miles Zuniga (Fastball) and many more.

"I'm on the List"... The Love Hope Strength team has had an amazing summer in 2010 signing people up and getting them "ON THE LIST"! We certainly would not have been able to do these bone marrow drives without the help of great sponsor's like DKMS, HealthONE, and Visa. We've been to Bonnaroo, Concerts and FIlm On The Rocks at Red Rocks Amphitheater, to Utah for Summer OR, Lollapalooza in the city of Chicago and much, much more. We're not done yet... We'll be conducting drives at Union County Music Fest in New Jersey in September and to Texas for Austin City Limits in October. Be sure to check back in a couple weeks for more updated photos from the Love Hope Strength bone marrow drives in 2010. We're everywhere! Are you "On The List!?"

On Sunday 21st March 2010, LHS veteran trekkers Matt Adam-Smith (Everest Rocks, Peru Rocks and Kilimanjaro Rocks) and Brien McVernon (Peru Rocks and Kilimanjaro Rocks) led a group of 40 supporters of all ages from kids of only 4 years old to grandparents over 70 on the scenic 9.5km Spit Bridge to Manly scenic coastal walk. The group also included special guest, Canadian Denver-based LHS Kilimanjaro Rocks trekker, Julie Bowlen as well as a number of cancer survivors. Sydney put on a beautiful day with temperatures over 30C for the morning’s walk. The walk was to raise money for the toll costs of cancer patient transport vehicles operated by the NELUNE Foundation. These vehicles take public hospital cancer patients to and from their life saving chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other treatments, saving them from long and tough journeys on public transport. Our target was $11k (being the toll costs of two vehicles for a year) was reached thanks to everyone’s generous support.

About 170 supporters including doctors, nurses and fans joined Mike for the sponsored walk up the Llanberis path to the top in aid of the charity. The walk was kindly supported by the Welsh Guards. Mike arrived at the misty summit and quiped looking over his shoulder: "that was a long way to come to play on a building site." Everyone's efforts in reaching the summit were rewarded with the day's only clearing in the clouds, timed to perfection just as the music started. The short set was part of the weekends fundraising efforts of the Foundation which was to raise awareness and funding for cancer research projects.

65 musicians, cancer survivors and supporters set out upon a 4 day trek along the Inca Trail in the Andes. The musical journey symbolizes the “Climb Back from Cancer (TM)” of millions of survivors around the globe, and celebrates the lives of those we lost. We ended our journey in the Inca Ruins of Machu Picchu where we celebrated the power of Love, Hope and Strength. The mission was to raise money and awareness for cancer care in Peru. We are working in conjunction with ALINEN to fund a mobile cancer unit which will be run by INEN, the main cancer center in Peru. We will also be moving forward with plans to set up a Love Hope Strength chapter in Peru in order to continue a national plan to educate and raise awareness of cancer and promote early detection.

"We Love To Feel the Rain in the Summertime!!" Despite hurricane conditions, the show went on! With performances from Everclear, Tokyo Police Club and rained out performances from Gin Blossoms, B52's and dozens more...the Union County Music Fest did not fail to bring out the people of New Jersey by the thousands. The Rock-on-walk-a-thon and 5k was a huge success followed by a marathon bone marrow drive. The weekend wrapped with a private performance by Mike Peters under a tent just before being ushered out by county marshal's. Memories of a lifetime!

Cancer survivors and co founders of the Love Hope Strength Foundation (LHSF) Mike Peters and James Chippendale lead 38 musicians, cancer survivors and mountaineers to Base Camp where they performed an acoustic concert to help the Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital build the infrastructure of its clinic, NCRS, by providing them with much needed equipment and funding. In a country where the Avg. annual income is $300 a year our donation and support is going a long way to save lives NOW. “Everest Rocks” was a fourteen day trek and acoustic concert at the base camp of Mt Everest, with a grand finale rock concert in Kathmandu. The entire journey was captured by a documentary team headed by Alex Coletti (the acclaimed producer of MTV’s ‘Unplugged’ series). Everest Rocks is now airing on Palladia (MTV High Def) and is available for purchase in our store.
