After years of subzero tents, sardine style sleeping accommodations, yak milk, and tarantulas…we thought it was time to bring Love Hope Strength’s one-of-a-kind fundraising music adventures to a warmer climate. Don’t worry – we are sure to return to freezing destinations soon!
Kauai Rocks is a combination of the passions of Mike Peters and Donavon Frankenreiter. Mike, a 2-time Leukemia survivor and lead singer of the Alarm, met Donavon, a champion surfer and world renowned musician who calls Kauai home, when they summitted Mount Fuji together to raise money for Love Hope Strength(LHS). Donavon, after seeing firsthand the global impact LHS has had on cancer care, has extended the olive branch to his majestic island. Artists from all over the globe will be joining Donavon and Mike throughout the 9 days in Kauai including John Oates, Shawn Colvin, and many more.
WHY KAUAI?
Cancer sees no color, race or religion. Hawaii, home to the most ethnically diverse population in the United States, is the perfect backdrop for our global fundraising efforts. The week will begin with incredible music-filled adventures and events that will highlight the native culture and island beauty and challenge you both physically and mentally. The proceeds from these events will benefit the Love Hope Strength foundations global cancer programs and initiatives such as our GET ON THE LIST campaign.
The week will include a concert in which the entire community of Kauai will join in a celebration only Love Hope Strength can provide. 100% of all proceeds from this once-in-a-lifetime concert will benefit community cancer care on the island.
The Hawaiian Islands are the Earth’s most isolated parcels of land lying in the middle of the North Pacific Ocean some 2400 miles from both the nearest continental land mass of North America making access to modern cancer care limited at best. The Island of Kauai lacks such basic needs as a full-time resident oncologist. With limited resources on the Island, locals are left with the expensive option of traveling to Oahu of the mainland of the United States for advanced care.
